Diablo IV — the settled meta corrected the launch scripts
One week of live Torment and Pit data has done what launch-week predictions never can, and the story of Season 14 (Death Awakening, patch 3.1.0) is a story of corrections — ours included. Barbarian and Rogue now share the top of the ladder. The single most consequential change wasn't a buff at all: the fix to Ramaladni's Magnum Opus turned Ancient Singer Barbarian into the highest legitimate damage in the game, while Whirlwind settled in as the season's best all-round build — one button, tanky, roughly Pit 140 on modest gear.
Rogue's claim to the throne comes with an asterisk we'd rather flag than hide: Death Trap posts the highest ceiling in the game, but part of that ceiling is bug-reliant and may not survive a hotfix. Penetrating Shot is the safe S-tier, and nothing in Sanctuary maps faster than a Rogue either way. Druid is the clear third with the deepest build variety of any class after its 3.1.0 buffs paid off.
The humbling: Paladin's launch buffs never translated to Pit performance. It was widely predicted as the season's top pick — we said so too — and the settled data puts it seventh of eight, keeping only its Hardcore-survivability and group-aura crowns. Warlock received the biggest buff pass in the patch and still settles last: the buffs raised the floor, not the ceiling. It's an unusually balanced season overall — no build is expected to clear Pit 150, and the whole top of the board sits within one hotfix of reshuffling. Full mode-by-mode rankings on the D4 board →
Path of Exile 2 — Runes of Aldur is quietly a builder's league
Patch 0.5 (Return of the Ancients) remains the biggest update PoE2 has had — a full Atlas of Worlds rework, Atlas Classes, two new Ascendancies — and five weeks into the Runes of Aldur league the meta has settled into something unusually diverse rather than one dominant archetype. Shield Wall Titan and Twister Monk headline the leaderboards: the Monk's Martial Artist ascendancy stacks Tailwind and Onslaught into arguably the fastest mapping in the game, with the honest caveat that it wants several premium uniques before it sings.
Ice Shot Deadeye is the league-start standout — Snipe one-shots most campaign bosses and freeze covers the build's early defensive gaps — while Grim Pillar Druid is the league's emerging discovery and still being optimised. The league's rune-crafting mechanic is feeding an equipment-driven meta, minion builds are scaling hard enough that community tier lists are only half-joking about a "minion league," and the oddest leaderboard fact of the patch: the top Mercenaries aren't damage dealers at all — they're Banner Bot supports stacking Tactician party buffs for group play.
Marathon — two weeks from its next real test
The honest read on Marathon doesn't change this week: after the Season 2 free-access spike faded, daily peaks have drifted back to the high single-digit thousands on Steam, a long way from its 88k launch high. What changes soon is the calendar. The July 21 mid-season update brings Vault Breaker — the game's clearest push yet toward PVE-friendly content — plus the Cradle Evolution map changes, and it lands two months before Season 3's September 22 revamp of the early-game Perimeter experience. Those are the two dates that decide whether the Runner pool grows again.
For displaced Destiny 2 players eyeing the extraction side of Bungie's universe — and there are suddenly a lot of you — the loadout math is genuinely different here: shell choice matters more than gun choice. Current Runner shell and weapon rankings →
The week ahead — what we're watching
Diablo IV: hotfix risk on Death Trap Rogue is the single most likely tier-shaker; if the bugged interaction goes, the top of the board reshuffles and this report will say so plainly. PoE2: the Runes of Aldur economy is mature enough that build-enabling uniques have stabilised in price — a good week to commit to a second character. Marathon: pre-patch quiet until July 21; expect datamining noise before official notes. Rankings on every game board update within 24 hours of any of these breaking.
